For over a decade, a thoughtful and practical way of sharing and demonstrating love and care has been available to EWYL families through the back to school supply distribution.
This annual event offers support, encouragement and provision in the lives of parents and children in the Earn While You Learn program at Bridgehaven. Client Support has been receiving school supplies that will support our active clients in the Earn While You Learn program.
The goal and prayer for the back to school distribution is to ease some of the financial burden and stress for families, promote dignity and respect for those receiving ministry, especially single-parent households, to promote community connectedness and establish Kingdom demonstrations of God’s goodness.
As of 2016, the Kids Count Data Center reported that 35% of families in America are single-parent families. up 3% since 2007. And according to the Huffington Post in 2016, it cost families $688.62 to send a student to school for the year.
Kelly, our Childcare Coordinator, asked some of our kids in childcare what their thoughts were about going back to school. Here is what Kelly heard…
- "I like to learn about science and math." (This was a very popular one!)
- "I like reading."
- "I like my teacher."
The Earn While You Learn program is a transformational model that focuses on growth in the whole-person concept by offering empowerment-focused classes. (Life skills, parenting, relationship, and Bible studies.) Clients who are actively seeking transformation through the classes and community relationships at Bridgehaven are invited to then earn physical and material resources and yearly benefits. One of the yearly benefits include the school supplies distribution. In October, we will have a Coat Distribution, we partner with Treasures in that event. In December, we offer a Christmas Room full of gifts.
My desire is for all families to experience assuring peace, hope and love by knowing they are not overlooked and the local body of Christ is an example of Jesus pouring out care!
Let’s be the people who put the gospel into action by practical means of care and compassion with dignity.
If you feel called to participate in this opportunity, please bring donations to Client Support at Bridgehaven by 6:30pm on Thursday, August 2nd. Our distribution for our clients will be held on Monday, August 6th.
