Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Psalm 150:6
I am so grateful for all of my senses that allow me to take in all of Your glorious creation.
To see, with my own eyes the new life emerging in all of nature;
to hear the return of singing birds and humming lawn mowers;
to feel the rays of sun warm my skin and sanitize the earth;
to taste fresh berries and summer squash;
to take in the aroma of grills firing up in the neighborhood and the smell of the promise of rain.
Your creation declares Your glory to me!
The incredible detail – planned, undeniable detail – and symmetry.
Like in a leaf pattern or a sand dollar or the human body.
Like the natural instincts in animals to survive, protect, camouflage, reproduce and hunt.
The fascination of a seed to soil to bloom to produce and then back to seed.
Innate intuition, whether human or animal.
Do you know when the mountain goats give birth?
Do you watch when the doe bears her fawn?
Do you count the months till they bear?
Do you know the time they give birth?
They crouch down and bring forth their young;
their labor pains are ended.
Their young thrive and grow strong in the wilds;
they leave and do not return. Job 39:1-4
The inexhaustible expansion of the human brain and the human heart to understand more and more, learning, applying, serving, evolving, defining, improving, healing, helping, resolving, challenging, protecting, exploring, developing, creating, cautioning, containing, contemplating, surviving, sustaining, enhancing…
While I am sorting out how it is You desire for me to take better care of Your creation, help me not take a single blade of grass, a fat red robin, a 70-degree day, a whispering tree, a billowy cloud, a flowering bush, pungent soil, cleansing rain, or the glimpse of a deer for granted.
Out of the north he comes in golden splendor;
God comes in awesome majesty.
The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power… Job 37:22-23
Teach me to appreciate Your handiwork, acknowledging the miracle of every detail.
I am in awe of You and Your creation when I take time to consider details. Forgive me for being so numb and cavalier about the miraculous creation that surrounds me.
The processes of life and death,
body systems and organs,
reproduction of life and nature,
the expanse of knowledge developed because of the way You made our brains,
delicate balancing of good and evil, heavens and earth, land and sea, production and consumption…
The marvel of it all is endless.
God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding. Job 37:5
Thank you for sharing life and the world with us, and for giving us such license and liberty to operate and govern over Your creation.
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Psalm 150:6
