You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. -1 John 4:4
Definition of overcome: succeed in dealing with a problem or difficulty; defeat an opponent; prevail.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. -Romans 8:37
The Lord led our Development team to Romans 8:37 and this theme of “Overcome” for our 2020 Gala months ago. But now “Overcome” has come to take on a deeper, richer meaning for all of us. What is this deeper, richer meaning? It is time for us to see and exercise our Christ-identity as overcomers! Jesus is in us and is an Overcoming King and Priest! We are sons and daughters that are overcomers and we live, move, and operate from a place of love – because of the complete and perfect work of the cross that Jesus bore. We are invited to partner and take ownership into the fullness of Overcoming Grace.
“Overcome” in Greek is nikao. Nikao means to conquer, to carry off the victory, come off victorious; this word implies battle.
We now find ourselves in an unexpected battle that involves the greater community around Bridgehaven. This is a battle that came upon our land and doors quickly, like a thief in the night. Just because fear is a thief and came abruptly does not mean that we must surrender to it. Love is calling us to overcome and prevail against the cultural message of fear. We have a much higher truth to stand on, declare, and live from. A Kingdom of perfect peace, joy, and righteousness. Perfect love casts out all fear! Love is a higher authority and reality than fear.
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. -John 16:33
Be hopeful and graceful in this season! We are a body of believers that have an identity of courage; our biblical, sovereign truth is a safeguard for us and our families that keeps us in perfect peace. We have wisdom, knowledge, and discernment available to us to keep us unharmed and spotless from the devices, assaults, and solicitations of fear.
They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. -Revelation 12:11
Our testimony and truth is that we are more than conquerors because of Jesus – we are overcomers! We are personally, corporately, and nationally overcoming fear and allowing Jesus to overcome us with His perfect love and peace!
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. -John 1:5
Jesus, thank you for your absolute and perfect Word that is light, provides light, and seasons and forms us. You are in us and we are in You. I speak the fullness of Colossians 2:2 over Iowa and our nation: that we may be encouraged in heart and united in love so that we may have the full riches of complete understanding of You! This is a time for You to be known and for others to see You, experience You, and learn of You. Thank You for reviving hearts, bringing bodies to wholeness, demonstrating love that triumphs over fear, wisdom for leaders that is from above, honor and respect that is full of integrity and purity, and a genuine wellbeing that cares and looks out for one another. Thank you that we can be thankful in this season and in every season. You are doing a major work in Your people. Thank You for Your mercy that overcomes! Thank You that our identity in Christ is becoming more recognized and exercised. Thank You for vision and provision that gives resources, direction, purpose, and life. We are not perishing because we lack. We are alive and well in You!
