Abortion Recovery & Support
After an Abortion
After an abortion, many people feel a variety of emotions including relief, sadness, elation, anxiety, or depression. This is normal and goes beyond hormonal changes after ending a pregnancy.
It is also common for your partner, family, or those close to you and your pregnancy to feel similar emotions.
While you may expect these symptoms, along with the other physical recovery symptoms, immediately following your abortion, for many individuals, emotions surrounding an abortion experience do not always surface right away. It is normal for these emotions and memories to come up later in life, especially around big life changes, milestones, or triggering events.
Am I Struggling From an Abortion Experience
If you are hurting from an abortion experience, it is important to find safe places to process your emotions with people who support you and can empathize with how you are feeling.
Pay attention to key symptoms such as:
anxiety, emotional detachment or numbness, depression, nightmares or flashbacks, increased substance use, disordered eating, lack of interest in things you once enjoyed, low self-esteem, overwhelming guilt, perceived shame, and more.
These may indicate a need for abortion recovery support.
Abortion Recovery Advocates
Our abortion recovery advocacy program provides one on one mentorship for those who are feeling complex emotions after an abortion experience.
